How the Flagstaff Festival of Science has impacted our youth
For this Flagstaff Festival of Science , I created a piece highlighting the festival’s profound influence on younger generations. This video focused on how early exposure to hands-on science experiences can shape students’ passions, academic paths, and eventual career choices. The story needed to feel authentic and inspiring, capturing the voices of students who discovered their love for STEM through the festival, as well as the educators who help make those transformative moments possible.
The goal was to showcase the festival’s role in cultivating future scientists, engineers, and innovators by weaving together personal stories from students and insights from educators. Through interviews, the piece explored how festival programs sparked curiosity, fostered confidence, and motivated students to pursue STEM-focused futures. It also emphasized the dedication of teachers and mentors who use creative methods to connect with youth and highlighted their perspectives on the festival’s positive impact on the broader community.
Creative Approach
I approached the edit by shaping a narrative that balanced student experiences with educator viewpoints. I began by reviewing all interviews to identify moments that reflected genuine excitement, pivotal memories, and the emotional resonance of scientific discovery. These testimonials were paired with b-roll of students engaging with festival activities, creating a visual rhythm that supported each story.
To maintain clarity and momentum, I structured the piece around recurring themes—curiosity sparked, opportunities created, and futures shaped. Through thoughtful sequencing, supportive music, and clean visual pacing, the edit underscored how the festival acts as a catalyst for learning and long-term inspiration.
