2026 Science Scavenger Hunt

FLAGSTAFF'S BEST ANNUAL SCAVENGER HUNT

The Science Scavenger Hunt is a local event that I lead creative and marketing for in Flagstaff, AZ. It is apart of the Flagstaff Festival of Science, and the primary goal is to bring in sponsorship donations while providing a fun experience for locals and travelers alike.

I am particularly proud of the marketing and advertising we did for the 2026 Scavenger Hunt, which took place May 2nd. I developed and ran ad campaigns through Google and Meta services, and was the driving force in all creative aspects from conception through execution.

Creative Approach

To achieve this, I focused primarily on using brand colors while incorporating imagery that appeals to our local demographic. The greens and purples used are our brand colors, and I know that Flagstaff's audience loves local nature photography and candid images. We used images took by participants in previous Scavenger Hunts and incorporated that in our marketing to ensure the audience for our ads know how much fun participants were having. Taking phone selfies is a large part of the event, which is why the phone vector is incorporated. Since this event sends people all throughout town, I utilized a topographic texture in the background to simulate map lines. I've used map lines in previous designs for this in the past, so I didn't want to do it again this year, which inspired the topographic theme.

Process

  • Research & Data Gathering: Did audience and demographic research on what visual style works within Flagsatff

  • Design & Asset Creation: Custom-made many assets to work across multiple ad channels and within specs from various advertisers.

  • Animation: Used motion principles such as anticipation, overshoot, and smooth easing to keep the pace lively and professional.

  • Refinement: Adjusted timing, transitions, and typography for clarity, rhythm, and impact.
