For this project, I contributed both editing and motion design to an explainer focused on the growth of sports betting and how companies like DraftKings and PrizePicks are shaping the industry. The video combined editorial storytelling with stylized, casino-inspired motion graphics that visually supported the narrative while reinforcing the theme of gambling culture.

UNO Casinos and Sports Betting

The goal was to create a cohesive visual system that helped viewers easily understand the complexities of legal sports betting, state-by-state regulations, and the strategies companies use to expand their reach. The graphics needed to feel immersive, rooted in casino iconography, while still remaining polished, clear, and informative.

Creative Approach

The motion graphics centered around a fully designed poker table environment, which served as a thematic foundation for all visual information:

  • Integrated 2D Graphics: Animated data and titles were composited directly into the poker table’s surface, making the table itself part of the storytelling.

  • Map Puzzle Animation: U.S. states were animated like puzzle pieces locking into place, visually representing how sports betting is expanding across the country.

  • Custom UNO Cards: These were used to call out states where gambling remains illegal, creating a playful but clear metaphor rooted in card-game aesthetics.

  • Custom Poker Chips: Animated chips displayed a decreasing statistic, symbolizing the idea of "putting down" money. Their movement reinforced the stakes and financial themes being discussed.

Process

  • Editorial Integration: Coordinated closely with the editing team to weave graphics naturally into the narrative flow and pacing.

  • Visual Development: Designed a cohesive casino-inspired style system using card motifs, poker chips, table textures, and game-like transitions.

  • Animation:

  • Animated the puzzle-like U.S. map to demonstrate regulatory expansion.

  • Created card flips, chip animations, and tabletop transitions for emphasis.

  • Compositing: Aligned all graphics within the poker table surface to maintain consistent perspective and immersion.

Challenges

A key challenge was ensuring the casino-themed visuals supported the topic without overwhelming the information. Balancing stylized metaphors with clarity required careful pacing and thoughtful placement of each graphical element within the tabletop environment.

Outcome

The final piece delivered a visually engaging, thematically rich explanation of the sports betting landscape. The poker-table integrated graphics, custom illustrations, and editorially synchronized motion created a clear, immersive narrative that made complex regulatory details easy to understand. This project highlights my strengths in conceptual motion graphics, metaphor-driven design, and seamless integration within a larger editorial context.
